4 Days Course Steam Boiler Engineer (Grade 1)

Course Summary

Trainees will gain an understanding of the legislation and standards related to steam boilers, including occupational safety and health regulations codes of practice, guidelines, and roles and responsibilities of steam engineers. They will also gain an understanding of the codes and standards, conceptual design, actual design, components, fittings, and safety devices related to boiler design.Trainees will gain an understanding of boiler defects, potential root causes, materials, creep and fatigue, corrosion and control, welding mechanical failure, and non-destructive testing and inspection (NDT/NDE).

Eligibility Requirement

Steam Boiler Operator (Grade 1 & Grade 2)

  1. Malaysian citizen.
  2. Has never been charged or found guilty of any offence under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 (Act 514) or its regulations.
  3. Certified fit by an Occupational Health Doctor (OHD) using the health examination form available in the MyKKP system.
  1. Possesses at least an SPM certificate or SKM Level 2 in any field or an equivalent qualification.
  2. Has 2 years of work experience related to steam boiler operations (must be certified by the employer).
  3. Has attended a Steam Boiler Operator Grade 2 course at a Registered Training Provider.
  4. Has passed the Steam Boiler Operator Grade 2 examination at a recognized Examination Centre.
  5. OR
  6. Possesses an SKM Level 3 in the field of Steam Boiler.
  7. Has 1 year of work experience related to steam boiler operations (must be certified by the employer).
  8. Has passed the Steam Boiler Operator Grade 2 examination at a recognized Examination Centre.
  1. Has 6 months of work experience related to steam boiler operations as a Steam Boiler Operator Grade 2.
  2. Obtains verification from the employer or a Steam Boiler Engineer Grade 1 for item (a).
  3. Has attended a Steam Boiler Operator Grade 1 course at a Registered Training Provider.
  4. Has passed the Steam Boiler Operator Grade 1 examination at a recognized Examination Centre.
  1. Applicants who wish to renew their competency as a Steam Boiler Operator is based on Section 31E(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994. Based on this provision, the qualifications for renewal applications as a Grade Two and Grade One Steam Boiler Operator are as follows:
    1. Still actively performing duties as a Steam Boiler Operator and verified by the employer.
    2. Certified fit by an Occupational Health Doctor (OHD) using the health examination form available in the MyKKP system.
    3. Has a permanent employer.
    4. Has not been convicted of any offence under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 (Act 514) or its regulations.
    5. Has not obtained registration or renewal through misrepresentation or fraud.
  2. To maintain continuity of the validity period of the Steam Boiler Operator competency certificate, the renewal application must be submitted 3 months before the expiry date of the competency certificate.
  3. Any application submitted more than 12 months after the expiry date of the competency (considered as a new registration) will be processed using the renewal procedure in the system together with a special assessment.

Eligibility Requirement

Steam Boiler Engineer (Grade 1 & Grade 2)

  1. Malaysian citizen.
  2. Has working experience in the field of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH).
  3. Has never been charged or found guilty of any offence under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 (Act 514) or its regulations.
  4. Certified medically fit by an Occupational Health Doctor (OHD).
  5. Attended the Steam Boiler Engineer course at a training centre accredited by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH).
  6. Passed the examination at a DOSH-accredited examination centre.
  7. Submits the registration application within 1 year after passing the Steam Engineer examination.
  1. Possesses at least a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering recognised by MQA; and
  2. Has 1 year of working experience related to steam boiler operations (must be certified by the employer)
  3. OR
  4. Possesses at least a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (other than Mechanical Engineering) recognised by MQA; and
  5. Has 2 years of working experience related to steam boiler operations (must be certified by the employer)
  1. Has 6 months of working experience as a Steam Boiler Engineer Grade 2.
  2. Has working experience in operating, handling, or maintaining a steam boiler with a heating surface area, or a combined total heating surface area of connected steam boilers, exceeding 2000 square metres.
  3. Obtains verification from the employer or a Steam Boiler Engineer Grade 1 for items (a) and (b)
  1. Applicants who wish to renew their registration must meet the following conditions:
    1. Still actively performing duties as a Steam Boiler Engineer and verified by the employer.
    2. Has obtained 30 Continuing Education Program (CEP) points within 3 years.
    3. Has attended and passed the refresher course prescribed by the department at a training centre accredited by DOSH.
    4. Certified medically fit by an Occupational Health Doctor (OHD).
    5. Has not been convicted of any offence under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 (Act 514) or its regulations.
    6. Has not obtained registration or renewal through misrepresentation or fraud.
  2. To ensure continuity of the validity period of the competency certificate, a Steam Boiler Engineer must submit the renewal application 3 months before the expiry date of the competency certificate.
